Sometimes it's hard to remember which passport one has to show as a dual UK & EU passport holder.

So here's a quick cheat-sheet on the protocol, using the example route BCN > LGW > BCN 


BCN ↔ LGW: Which Passport to Show

For a UK & EU dual citizen travelling Barcelona ⇄ London Gatwick.

Barcelona → London Gatwick

  • Airline check-in / Security (BCN): UK passport (proves entry to UK)
  • Exit border control (BCN): EU passport (Schengen exit as EU citizen)
  • Arrival UK border (LGW): UK passport (use e-gates)

London Gatwick → Barcelona

  • Airline check-in / Security (LGW): EU passport (proves entry to Spain/Schengen)
  • Arrival border (BCN): EU passport (Schengen entry as EU citizen, use e-gates no queues, no hassle)

Golden rule

  • Enter/leave each country with the passport that gives you automatic right of entry (UK in the UK, EU in Schengen).
  • At airline check-in, show the passport that proves you can enter your destination.

Why does Premiere Pro "Sequence from clip" on MP4 and then "Match Sequence" result in a massive AVI file?

Good Question! You would imagine that just "trimming" an MP4 file with same setting would be quick and painless, but when I tried it the resultant file was massive - like 10x the size of the original file. https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/match-sequence-settings-mp4-to-mpeg-is-this-normal/td-p/11042944 Turns out this is because the .mp4 compression means there aren't really full frames in the file just deltas. So when you select "Match Sequence Settings", it has to give you AVI format anyway. So this is what you HAVE to do.   Go ahead and create your HUGE AVI file.  Then use an app or an online service to compress it back down... I had a good result using  https://cloudconvert.com/avi-to-mp4 It shrunk the 76Mb AVI to less than half a Mb.

Drop off and pick up at Gatwick Airport

I've become a bit of an expert at drop off and pick up at Gatwick Airport over the last couple of years. Gatwick Airport have committed to 52% of journey to and from the airport being made by public transport by 2030.  Very commendable. Seems they intend to do this by raising parking charges to levels that include the loss of arms, legs and even testicles. " The charge will be £5 for 10 minutes, and £1 for each additional minute up to 20 minutes. The maximum charge will be £25 and the maximum length of stay 30 mins." Today it is £6, for both quick drop-off and up to 15 minutes pick-up. It says there "£25" maximum charge.  I don't believe that.
